Your Path to Arabic Literacy
We break down the complexity of Arabic script into manageable stages. Each phase builds on previous knowledge while introducing new challenges at a comfortable pace.
Script Foundation
Learn the 28-letter Arabic alphabet with proper letter forms, connecting rules, and sound recognition. You'll write each letter in isolation and connected forms.
Word Construction
Build vocabulary by forming words from learned letters. Practice reading short texts and writing simple sentences with attention to diacritical marks.
Text Analysis
Read authentic Arabic materials including news articles, short stories, and essays. Develop comprehension strategies and analytical writing skills through structured exercises.

How We Actually Teach Arabic Literacy
Most people struggle with Arabic because they try to memorize everything at once. We've found that systematic exposure to letter forms, combined with daily writing practice, produces better results.
- Daily writing assignments with instructor review and feedback within 48 hours
- Progressive reading materials that match your current skill level
- Common script variations you'll encounter in different Arabic-speaking regions
- Practical tools like the chainalysis method for breaking down complex texts
What Makes Our Approach Different
Arabic script has its own logic. Once you understand how letters connect and why certain forms exist, reading becomes pattern recognition rather than memorization.
Structured Letter Progression
We introduce letters in groups based on visual similarity and connection patterns. This helps you recognize letter families and reduces confusion between similar forms. By week three, students typically recognize all letter shapes in context.
Authentic Material Integration
From week one, you'll see real Arabic texts alongside your practice exercises. This shows you where your learning fits into actual reading situations. We use news headlines, social media posts, and literature excerpts.
Writing as Learning Tool
Hand-writing Arabic reinforces letter recognition faster than typing. Our daily writing exercises take 15-20 minutes and receive personalized feedback. You'll build muscle memory for proper letter formation and flow.
Contextual Vocabulary Building
Rather than isolated word lists, you'll learn vocabulary through themed reading passages. This creates natural associations and helps with retention. Each lesson introduces 8-12 new words in meaningful contexts.

Meet Your Instructor
Laila Bertelsen, Lead Arabic Literacy Instructor
I've taught Arabic reading and writing for eleven years, mostly to adults starting from scratch. The biggest challenge I see is students getting overwhelmed by the script's unfamiliarity.
My approach focuses on building confidence through small, consistent wins. We spend more time on the fundamentals than most programs because that foundation determines everything that follows. When students master letter connections early, they progress much faster through intermediate and advanced material.
I review every writing assignment personally and provide specific feedback on letter formation, spacing, and flow. This individual attention helps students develop proper habits before they become ingrained mistakes.
